March Update
I missed my weekly blog last week and that’s because a lot of exciting things have been happening. And also because I’m a full-time employee and mom of two little boys. I’ll keep this post short and sweet with some updates on the space and our journey as we progress towards opening our lovely indoor play cafe.
Contractors discuss our plan of attack for once we can start construcion
As we await our permit (hoping for end of the month *fingers crossed*), I had all the contractors meet with me onsite so we could start putting together a game plan and get to work as soon as the permit is in our hands. I was nervous honestly, being a young woman meeting three male contractors who know what they are talking about (whereas this is my first exposure to anything related to construction). But wow, I have been so pleased with the people I have been able to work with on this project so far. Nobody talked down to me; they answered my questions; we were all on the same page; I was not “mansplained” to once! They also discussed amongst themselves and seemed to work well solving problems. One slightly strange thing with my project is that instead of hiring a general contractor who then brought on subcontractors for the plumbing and electrical, I am using my landlord’s recommended plumbers and electricians. So they haven’t all worked together in the past, so in a very high-level way I’m playing as construction manager!
Once we have our permit and construction starts, our monthly updates should get more and more exciting as we inch toward our June launch. Thanks for being along for the ride.
