Cafe Layout & Flow
Alright alright, I hear ya. You all are wondering what this space is actually going to look like! I am thinking about Sunny Village Cafe for about 8 hours/day so sometimes I forget what I have and haven’t yet shared. And this is a big one!
In this post I’ll share some renderings and blueprints from our designer (love you Cristiana Crin) and architect. But please just take it all with a grain of salt and realize some of these things will likely be slightly different because…well, construction. Things don’t always go exactly as planned. That probably was my main hesitation in sharing actual drawings of our design and layout.
But let’s get to it!
Here are the main areas in order of what you see as you walk in, check in, sit down, and get playing:
The entrance and foyer (green)
The shop (yellow)
The cafe bar and check-in counter (red)
The gate to the cafe seating and play area (between green and purple)
Wall divider (between green and orange)
Cafe seating (purple)
Playspace (orange)
Quiet room (blue)
Two ADA compliant bathrooms (pink)
Brown areas are non-public storage and utility areas.
When you first walk into our space (green) you can go to the right, take off your shoes, hang up any coats and layers, and hang up or park your stroller. If you’d rather bring your things in through the gate there will be some limited storage space available there as well. Between the entrance/foyer (green) and the playspace (orange), there will be a fun wall divider to help ensure children stay safe but also still allow natural light into the play area.
You then will go over to our check in counter (red) to pay for admission or look up your membership and order any food or drink (you can always order later once you’re in the play area). You’ll notice we have a little tiny section (yellow) in the front right next to our counter where you can find curated (from local brands/businesses!!) children’s toys, clothing, cards, and more for purchase.
Once you’ve checked in, you’ll go through the gate and enter our cafe seating (green) and play area (orange). The cafe seating will be along the left wall. We will also have child-sized tables and chairs as we know many children love things that are “just-their-size”. The seating area will have vinyl plank flooring and the play area will be a padded carpet. For more information on what will be included in our play area, check out this blog post.
If you follow the hallway on the back right hand side of our space you will find our Quiet Room (blue). This is a space for caregivers to feed babies as well as a space to help overstimulated children take a break from playing. There will be a sink, bottle warmer, and comfortable seating in this space.
In the very back you will find two newly constructed ADA compliant restrooms, fully equipped with changing tables and stocked with some basic diaper-changing supplies for our guests.
Additional Info
As of the writing of this post, admission will be $13 for the first child and additional siblings will be discounted. Admission covers you for the day. Did you come in and your child immediately have a breakdown? (We’ve all been there). You are welcome to leave and come back later that same day and not have to pay admission again.
Monthly memberships will include admission for siblings and have additional perks (more perk and pricing information coming soon, aka free coffee). Memberships will be tied to the child, not the adult, so that any caregiver (e.g., mom, dad, grandma, nanny) can bring your child to the cafe.
We’re currently planning on being open Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm, with extended hours on Tuesday and Thursday. However, this may change depending on staffing and traffic trends we observe over the first couple months of being open. Our weekend hours will be Saturday 8:30am-12:30pm.
